Selection Criteria

GAMELAN: We invite individuals who have music experience to apply to the music program. Once you are in classes, Music Director Dewa Berata will help create study groups that include both beginners and experienced gamelan players.  Balinese gamelan provides a challenging and supportive learning environment for all levels of experience and ability. Those with no previous gamelan experience are encouraged to listen to recordings of gamelan before you arrive to help develop your understanding of the music.  Music background is required.

DANCE   The study of dance is open to all dancers regardless of level.  Classes are structured in a way that nurtures community and friendship and also allows each person to grow artistically. Beginners will develop a strong understanding of the techniques of male and female dance and experienced Balinese dancers will have an opportunity to expand repertoire and deepen your understanding of the most profound principals of Balinese dance.  If 2024 does not meet minimum enrollment of six, we will will provide a special dance breakout section- 1 1/2 hours daily dance instruction.

Tuition (airfare is not included)  : double occupancy: $2000 USD; private room: $2,400 USD.  For 2024  special student rate (18-22 year) double occupancy $1500 USD.  A youth (14-18 yrs ) rooming in parents private room $1,100 USD(this is a rollaway bed). Tuition without housing $1500 USD -does not include airport pick up.

Tuition includes:  12 days of instruction 9am-4pm ; 1 day optional tour; 1 rest day;  gift of rehearsal/temple attire, home cooked lunchs on days of instruction (we support your dietary instructions); breakfast included with lodgings; 4 evening meals (receptions and special events);  airport pick up  July 13-14 and return July 28-29th; and educational  outings.  Please note, most evening meals, laundry, and hotel/driver tips are not included.  Students provide their own kebaya (women) and shirts (men)  for temple attire.

In 2024 we have secured rooms at two locations all within walking distance. Be assured that all Income from CSI  benefits the year round instruction of the Çudamani’s youth program.
